If Vancouver has a coffee capital, it’s Mount Pleasant. Main Street from Terminal Avenue down to King Edward, plus the side streets around Broadway and Quebec, packs in more good coffee per block than anywhere else in the city. Time Out named Mount Pleasant one of the world’s 40 coolest neighbourhoods in 2026, and its suggested perfect day starts with a coffee at Modus. We agree.

The essentials

  • 49th Parallel & Lucky’s Doughnuts, Main Street: The roaster’s flagship cafe, with a full doughnut case. Many coffee people consider this the anchor of the neighbourhood.
  • Modus Coffee (West Broadway near Main): A Mount Pleasant micro-roaster with a cozy cafe, cupping events and roastery tours. Time Out’s pick for starting a Mount Pleasant day.
  • Milano Coffee (156 West 8th Avenue): The Vancouver roaster’s Mount Pleasant cafe. Some critics call it the neighbourhood’s best cafe.
  • Small Victory, Mount Pleasant (388 West 6th Avenue): The bakery’s biggest location, near Cambie, with croissants, bread and espresso in a bright, roomy space.
  • Nemesis, Great Northern Way (555 Great Northern Way): The striking red pavilion by Emily Carr University.
  • Prototype Coffee tasting room (222 West 5th Avenue, inside Please! Beverage Co.): Daytime outpost of the Strathcona micro-roaster.

More Main Street stops

  • JJ Bean, Main Street (3010 Main Street): One of the best coffee patios in the city. Grab a seat and watch Main go by.
  • Honest to Pete Coffee Roasters: A Mount Pleasant roaster worth seeking out for beans.
  • Aperture Coffee Bar: A cozy, neighbourhood specialty cafe and community hub on Main.
  • East is East: Not a coffee shop, but its chai is a Main Street institution.
  • Zeeka Cafe Bakery (4377 Main Street): Our profile of this bakery cafe farther south.

Riley Park and south Main

  • Trafiq Café & Bakery (4216 Main Street): Serving Main Street since 2011, with big cakes and good coffee.
  • Zeeka Cafe Bakery (4377 Main Street): Creative tres leches and pistachio tiramisu with your cortado.
  • Le Marché St. George (4393 St. George Street): A tiny corner grocer-cafe on a residential street. Feels like a secret.

A Main Street coffee walk

  1. Start at Main Street–Science World station and walk up Main past the murals.
  2. Detour to West Broadway for Modus.
  3. Walk west on 8th Avenue for an espresso at Milano.
  4. Continue up Main to 49th Parallel for a doughnut.
  5. End with a patio coffee at JJ Bean near 14th, by the new public plaza.

Local tips

  • Main Street Car Free Day in September turns the street into a festival.
  • The 3 Main bus runs the whole length of the strip.
  • Note: Matchstick, which had cafes nearby, wound down all its locations in 2026.
