The District of North Vancouver wraps around the City like a horseshoe, from Capilano to Deep Cove, and its cafes are built for people heading outdoors. You grab a coffee before Quarry Rock, after Lynn Canyon, or on the way back from a ski day at Seymour. Here’s the local playbook.

Deep Cove

A tiny village at the end of the road on Indian Arm, packed on sunny weekends with hikers and kayakers.

  • Honey Doughnuts & Goodies (4373 Gallant Avenue): “Honey’s” has been frying its cake-style, honey-soaked doughnuts in Deep Cove since 1996, and celebrities from Kate Winslet on have gushed about them. The local move: pre-order, hike Quarry Rock, pick them up warm. Go early, as the line is constant.
  • Dip Co. Sandwich: A few doors down from Honey’s, for something savoury with your coffee.
  • Gallant Avenue cafes: A few small cafes line the main street, including spots with plant-based menus and fresh juices. Perfect for refuelling after a paddle.

Tip: Parking in Deep Cove fills up fast in summer. Take the bus or arrive before 9 a.m.

Dollarton and Parkgate

  • JJ Bean, Dollarton (391 North Dollarton Highway): A few minutes’ walk from Cates Park and a short drive to Deep Cove. A beautiful coffee pit stop.
  • Parkgate Village: The shopping centre at the base of Mount Seymour Parkway has chains and local cafes for a coffee on the way up the mountain.

Lynn Valley

  • Tommy’s Cafe: A favourite of local mountain bikers and visitors heading to Lynn Canyon. Hearty breakfast, strong coffee.
  • Lynn Valley Village: Cafes around the library and town square make it easy to grab a coffee before Lynn Canyon Park or Rice Lake.

Edgemont Village

A charming, walkable village near the base of Grouse, with independent cafes, a bakery or two and plenty of patio seating. A natural stop on the way to Capilano or Grouse Mountain.

Capilano and Lower Lynn

Around Capilano Suspension Bridge and the Lynnmour and Lower Lynn town centre, new developments are bringing new cafes. Useful for commuters heading over the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge.

Chains in the District

Starbucks and Tim Hortons cover Lynn Valley, Parkgate, Capilano and the Marine Drive corridor, including drive-thrus convenient for ski days at Seymour and Grouse.

Local tips

  • Best post-hike treat: Honey doughnut in Deep Cove after Quarry Rock.
  • Best scenic coffee: JJ Bean Dollarton, then a walk in Cates Park.
  • Best village vibe: Edgemont Village.

Frequently asked questions

Where should I get coffee in Deep Cove?

Honey Doughnuts & Goodies is the classic. The cafes on Gallant Avenue are good alternatives.
