Prado was a bit of an anomaly when it first appeared on the Drive: sleek, minimalist and bright on a street of old Italian espresso bars. The brand began in 2004. In December 2011, award-winning barista Sammy Piccolo, a four-time Canadian barista champion and World Barista Championship finalist who earlier co-founded Caffè Artigiano with his brothers, reopened it at the original corner of Commercial and East 4th. That café grew into one of Metro Vancouver’s best-known homegrown coffee brands, with about ten locations and, as of August 2026, its first café in Calgary.

Who it’s best for
Remote workers, students and anyone wanting a polished specialty café close to the SkyTrain.
