For a decade, Small Victory’s original bakery on Homer Street was one of Yaletown’s defining cafés, famous for its croissants, its bright white room and the milk and cream on tap at the coffee bar. When the lease ended in May 2024, regulars were heartbroken. The good news came soon after: the team was moving a few blocks south to the waterfront. The new Small Victory at 1089 Marinaside Crescent, in the former SeaHouse space, brings the brand back to where it started, now with views of False Creek.

Location and getting there
The café sits right on the False Creek seawall along Marinaside Crescent, steps from David Lam Park and the Aquabus dock at the foot of Davie Street. Walk down from Yaletown–Roundhouse Station, or arrive by bike along the seawall. It’s an ideal stop at the start or end of a False Creek loop.
What Small Victory offers
- Pastries: Croissants, including the bite-size cinnamon-sugar ones that became a Small Victory signature, plus seasonal pastries and cakes.
- Bread: Loaves baked by the Small Victory team.
- Sandwiches and light lunch: Bakery-style sandwiches and savoury bakes.
- Coffee: Espresso drinks and drip from a carefully run coffee bar.
The vibe
Breezy and minimalist, with the brand’s clean aesthetic and an ocean-inspired twist for the waterfront room. The design team, &Daughters, also worked on Small Victory’s Brentwood and Mount Pleasant cafés. Co-owner Afshan Nathoo has described the new space as more “neighbourhood” than the old Homer Street shop, and it shows: dog walkers, stroller crews and seawall cyclists are the core crowd.
What to order
- Classic: A croissant and a cappuccino.
- Sharing: A bag of mini cinnamon-sugar croissants.
- Lunch: A sandwich to take to David Lam Park.
Who it’s best for
Yaletown residents, seawall walkers and runners, and anyone who wants a polished bakery café with a view. Busy weekend mornings aren’t ideal for laptop work.
Other Small Victory locations
Small Victory also has cafés in Mount Pleasant (its biggest, on West 6th Avenue near Cambie), South Granville, and Burnaby’s Amazing Brentwood.
How it compares
For a coffee-first stop in Yaletown, Black Echo on Mainland Street is the specialty pick. For a sweeter, later-hours café, try Perfecto on Davie. For gelato by the water, Bella Gelateria’s flagship is in Coal Harbour.
Tips
- Weekend mornings get busy; arrive early for the best pastry selection.
- Combine with the Aquabus to Granville Island for a waterfront morning.
