For years the joke was that you had to cross the Pattullo for good coffee. That’s no longer true. Surrey is huge (it will soon pass Vancouver in population), and its coffee scene now matches: specialty bars in City Centre, roasters in Cloverdale and Fleetwood, and cozy neighbourhood spots in South Surrey. Because the city is so spread out, the best way to approach it is by neighbourhood.
Surrey City Centre (Whalley)
The area around Surrey Central SkyTrain, SFU Surrey and the new towers is where the city’s coffee energy is concentrated right now.
- Nemesis Pavilion (13380 102A Avenue): When Nemesis opened its fourth location here in February 2025, it was a signal that Surrey had arrived on the specialty map. Expect the brand’s careful coffee, a big stainless steel bar, brunch, a patio in summer and Dope Bakehouse donuts you can only get at this location.
- Cafes around Civic Plaza and Central City: A mix of independents and chains serving students and office workers. Useful for a weekday laptop session.
Fleetwood
- Cuatro Coffee (9014 152 Street): A favourite with locals for friendly service and well-made espresso. One of the names that comes up most when Surrey residents argue about the best coffee in the city.
Cloverdale
Historic Cloverdale’s main street has small-town charm, the fairgrounds and a TV-show-famous facade or two.
- Republica Coffee Roasters, Cloverdale: A local roaster with a strong ethical-sourcing focus and a loyal following. Buy a bag of beans on the way out.
- Fresh Cup Roastery Café (Highway 10): A roaster-cafe that’s handy if you’re crossing between Cloverdale, Panorama and Newton.
Guildford and North Surrey
- Kaffina Coffee: A cozy independent that regulars treat as a second living room.
- Around Guildford Town Centre, chain cafes dominate. Good for a mall break, less so for a coffee adventure.
South Surrey and Morgan Crossing
- Mink Chocolate Cafe (Morgan Crossing): Chocolate-forward drinks and treats. Their hot chocolate is the move on a cold, wet day.
- Crescent Beach: A coffee and a walk along the beach at Crescent is one of the best low-key mornings in Metro Vancouver. Pair with our White Rock cafe guide if you’re heading further along the water.
Newton and Panorama
These areas are dominated by chains and South Asian sweet shops serving masala chai, which is often the better order anyway. Ask for it with extra ginger.
Chains in Surrey
Surrey is Tim Hortons country, with drive-thrus on almost every arterial road, plus plenty of Starbucks, Blenz and Waves. If you’re commuting on Highway 1 or King George Boulevard, a drive-thru is the realistic choice. Our Tim Hortons guide helps you order a better one.
